《蒙大文学院规章制度》翻译报告

Abstract

This translation report aims to present the process of translating the Pedagogical Regulation of the Faculty of Letters and Social Sciences (FLCS) at Eduardo Mondlane University from Portuguese into Mandarin. The choice of this document is justified by its academic and administrative relevance, as it regulates the academic life of the institution and, consequently, also of the Confucius Institute, which is under the supervision of FLCS. The methodology was based on different translation theories, such as Eugene Nida’s formal and dynamic equivalence, Peter Newmark’s semantic and communicative translation, Lawrence Venuti’s domestication and foreignization, as well as Hans Vermeer’s Skopos theory. Selected challenging sections of the regulation were translated and analyzed. The results demonstrate that the translation of normative texts requires a balance between terminological precision and communicative clarity. It is concluded that the translation of the regulation contributes to better academic and cultural integration between Mozambique and China.
