Análise da linguagem jornalística nas matérias sobre mudanças climáticas caso de estudo: jornais Notícias e o País - outubro a dezembro de 2021

Abstract

This research sought to analyse the journalistic language used in the stories about climate change, published by the newspapers Jornal Notícias and O País, during the period from October to December 2021. With specifically defined objectives the work intended to verify the simplicity, clarity, conciseness and correctness in news and reports on climate change, published by the newspapers under study, as well as investigate the accessibility of vocabulary, to understand if the technical terms were properly simplified. Using the qualitative method, 20 stories (news and reports) were analysed, being 10 from each newspaper, to understand to what extent the stories on climate change were accessible to the reader. And in the search for the answer two hypotheses were established: a) the language used in the articles on climate change published in the newspapers Notícias and O País is accessible because the texts observe the main criteria of journalistic writing; and b) the language used in the articles on climate change, in the newspaper O País is less accessible if compared to the Notícias due to the use of very technical expressions and long periods and sentences, which hinders the reader's understanding. After analysing the articles from each newspaper, the second hypothesis was confirmed, adding that neither of the two newspapers managed to present in all the texts the four selected principles.
