Abstract

Leucaena leucocephala is a shrubby perennial legume of the subfamily Fabaceaceace, a species native to Tropical America, with high yields of dry matter and high content of crude protein constitutes a viable alternative for animal supplementation, especially in the dry season. the dry season. The present work arises with the purpose of evaluating the effect of different methods of breaking dormancy in the germination of seeds of Leucaena leucocephala and its influence on the initial growth. The experiment was conducted on the campus of ESUDER, in the experimental experimental area of the department of Agricultural Production. It was used in a DCC with three treatments (T0 - testimony, T1 - scarification and T2 - immersion in environmental conditions for 24 hours) and five repetitions. To evaluate the effect of the treatments, the germination speed index, height growth and germination rate, height growth and diameter growth during the seedling growth phase were studied. phase of seedling growth. The data obtained in the field were analyzed using the statistical software Assistat version 7.7 Beta 2015. From the analyses performed it was found that the T0 and T1 treatments were statistically equal as to the germination speed index and higher than the treatment T2. Similarly to the growth in height, it was observed that treatment T0 and T1 are statistically equal, and were superior to T2. In terms of diameter growth, T1 was superior and statistically different from treatments T0 and T2. Scarification was the treatment that provided the best result with regard to growth in diameter.
